Pop-Up! Queer=Pride Party

queer pride 2014 crop

Pop-Up! A Queer Dance Party is proud to present our 3rd annual QUEER PRIDE PARTY to kick off Pride Vermont weekend (9/12-9/14). Friday, September 12th, 9pm-1am at ArtsRiot in Burlington, VT. 18+ and $5 cover.

We fiercely believe that there is still a place for queerness of all shapes, sizes, and glitter in pride celebrations – we just have to make that space happen. This year, we are participating in the pride them, “generations of pride,” by remembering our queeroes in Act Up and many other radical queer groups who kept our community alive in during the worst of the HIV/AIDs epidemic. It is due in large part to them that we can queer up our lives as we need and want to.

9pm – QUEER STORY SLAM. Come tell a story of “pride” or listen to others. Hosted by Emma Moros!

9pm-11pm – Rocket Erotic – a sex positive store, whose mission is to create an empowering place for people of all genders and sexual orientations to explore the erotic.

10pm-1am – DJ Rob Douglas and DJ Precious turn the volume up to get you on that dance floor. Come dance the night away with our fabulous go-go dancers!

This is THE pride party that brings together queers from across the community – at pop-up! qdp, we encourage everyone to be who they are. Come queer up your pride with us!

Wayne Beam’s Memorial Brick Placing Fri. Sept. 12th

10603528_714300121940308_4134371320415524672_nJoin us and Wayne’s family, as we honor his memory with the placing of his brick, between 4-4:30pm on Friday, September 12th.

In the late spring, we lost Wayne Beam – a pillar in our queer community. For many years, by day he worked with Vermonters of different abilities, by night he tended bar at queer and larger community events, concerts, and shows.

The loss of Wayne impacted many and thanks to a summer fundraising campaign, we were able to raise the funds to have a memorial granite brick installed in the Church Street Marketplace during Pride weekend.

Location on Church St. TBA.

Please pass the word on facebook! Thanks to Pride Vermont for helping to gather the community at this event!

Wayne’s Wiffle Ball Game – Sat. July 26th

YOU DID IT VERMONT!  We exceeded our goal and raised almost $350 dollars!  Wayne’s BRICK will be placed Pride weekend (September 12/14th).  Details soon.  THANK YOU!

Help raise the $250 to create a memorial granite brick in Wayne Beam’s name on the Church Street Marketplace in Burlington, VT – to be placed during Pride weekend (September 12-14th).

This spring, we lost a dear queer community member – Wayne Beam. He was a long-time bartender and events producer in the community – starting at 135 Pearl and tending to all of us in more ways than one over the years at many venues and events. He is greatly missed by all.

Wayne really loved baseball and as our way to keep his spirit of love and joy alive in all our hearts, we are shifting the annual old north end Ramble pop-up! queer kick ball game into …

Wayne Beam

Wayne Beam

the first WAYNE WIFFLE BALL GAME on Saturday, July 26th at 10am-12pm at the Sustainability Academy at Lawrence Barnes Elementary School on North Street in Burlington, VT. In the shady, grassy baseball field behind the school, we will gather to play one epic game of wiffleball. All Ages. All Abilities. Everyone gets to play (we will sub in if there are lots of folks).

Can’t make the game? We will be collecting donations via this a GOFUNDME site up to and through the wiffle ball game, getting to the goal. Any extra money raised will be all given to Wayne’s family to help cover memorial costs from back in May. Any amount helps – consider it your last bartender tip to Wayne!

donation website: http://www.gofundme.com/bhbhx0

Two teams will be picked that morning, bring a blank shirt that you can mark up with your pick of a jersey number & team name (which will be picked by the team that morning too). No skill required, just bring your love of Wayne and wiffleball.

Not much into playing? Then come be part of the pick up queerleading squad to cheer on each team! Pom Poms, outfits, and cheers DIY!

This game kicks off a community fundraising effort to raise $250 to create a granite brick with Wayne’s name on it for Church Street. It is a way to honor his memory and the impact he made on so many lives. Our goal is to raise the money by Pride weekend in September (9/13-9/14) so we can place the brick that weekend.

Donation sliding scale asked per player. If everyone kicks in $5 per player (or more), we will be well on the way toward the brick. Every bit helps! [cash accepted at the game].

Please pass the word!

Let’s queer up this wiffle ball game in Wayne’s honor!
